“Did you know what they say about stonehenges?” Jake asked
“That they’re originally heads of dancing giants?” Dana answered cheerfully
Jake gave a sluggish laugh and led her to the center. “Ha-ha. It could be. But did you know they’re also known as marks to the gateway of the beginning and the end of life? Legend suggests that every 5,000 years, someone attempts to open them and choose either life or death.”
“That’s creepy! What if that someone would choose to end his life—or worse, end somebody else’s life?” her eyes widened in horror
“Should we try? I happen to have inherited the key to open these stonehenges. It was passed from generation to generation, and recently, to me.”
“Shut up Jake!”
He smiled slyly and, in a flash, knelt to the ground, pulled out a small box, and said, “In front of the dancing giants and the gateway to the beginning and end of life, I choose to end my solitary mornings and start my every waking day with you by my side.”
With shaking hands, Dana tried to open the box but found it locked. “Are you kidding me?”
Jake kissed her on the forehead. “I told you I have the key, didn’t I? Now I’ll take that as a ‘yes’.”
Tears fell down her cheeks as she beamed to the stonehedges. “Of course it’s a YES. I bet they’re dancing underneath.”
Here’s my take on this week’s Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers challenge. This week’s photo prompt is provided by The Storyteller’s Abode.
Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers is a weekly writing challenge hosted by Priceless Joy where a photo is used as a prompt for a piece of fiction using 150 (+/- 25 words).

Very intriguing that they can unlock the stonehenges with a box. Great story and I enjoyed reading it. It is a little over the limit which is okay to do occasionally. Thank you so much for participating in FFfAW challenge!

Thank you PJ! I know.. I went a little over. Word count can be a bit tricky. Hopefully I’d nail it the next time around. “fingers crossed*

I know it is sometimes hard to stay within the limits but it also makes it more challenging and fun. No one is going to get into trouble or be kicked off for going over but I need to put a word limit on it so people don’t go overboard writing their stories otherwise the challenge is worthless.

Agree. Word counts make it more challenging and playful too. 🙂

A beautiful proposal – though I was a little worried he was going to sacrifice her to open the portal for a while there! Good story. 🙂
