Pandemonium: Realm of Desolation
Beneath her skin are fragile bones,
veins darken with the sorrow that flows
Slice her open and her innards
desiccate into dust
as fast as fear pierces her heart
So she crack a smile to hide
the realm of desolation
she keeps inside

In response to dVerse’s Quadrille– 16: Opening to the Muse
Tending the bar today is Victoria with her delicate poem, Hibiscus. The challenge is to write a poem in exactly 44 words (excluding title) inspired by the word OPEN. I’ve written about Pandemonium last month for OLN and our current weather (thunderstorm) prompt me to write a follow-up. 🙂
Head over here to join the fun:

So painful to read, and so much a skin can hide… I feel like it will just burst.

One of these days, the crack will open wide– baring all the sorrows and pain and fears and all the fragments of imperfection. And she hopes, someone would still choose to stay.

Your use of “cracks a smile” is perfect – makes it feel painful, like breaking off pieces of self.

Isn’t that tragic? How one smile could hide so much pain? *sigh*
Thank you, De.

Thank you, Toni! It is true for most of us. But a smile, despite the chaos inside, could also mean strength. Don’t you think?

This is such a powerful metaphoric write, Maria. I could feel the pain of emptiness. Your creative muse took you on a ride, for sure.

I loved this poem Maria. We just never know, by looking at someone, the darkness and sorrow they may be carrying around inside them.
