Scribblings and scrawls of a hopeless romantic soul

The Great Book of Lists- Chapter 2.1: Favorite Onscreen Kisses

I have to admit, this week’s The Great Book of Lists’ chapter is quite a challenge for two reasons: 1) I’m not much of a movie-junkie and I’m still working on my penchant towards romantic movies, and 2) the kissing part is not really my most anticipated part of a movie.

Still,  I believe most kisses makes a movie or a scene pleasurably great. It’s like opening a jar of hearts or unwrapping a box of love. So here goes some of my favorite on-screen kisses. Hope you like them, too!

1. The Jack and Annie kiss in Speed. Starred by Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock. What better way to end a beautiful movie than with a long-awaited kiss after the heart-stopping, nerve-wrecking bomb chase and train crash?

2. The Rafe and Evelyn kiss in Pearl Harbor. Starred by Ben Affleck and Kate Beckinsale. I’ve always preferred the Rafe and Evelyn love story, no offense to Danny. And their first kiss? It’s so beautiful that it hurts.

3. The Takuma and Mayu kiss in I Give My First Love To You. Starred by Masaki Okada and Mao Inoue. The cutest kiss I’ve ever seen on screen.  That scene of young Takuma telling his dream to be an astronaut and marry Mayu someday was so sweet. And when Mayu begged and wished on a four-leaf clover for Takuma to be cured from his disease, it was just so… tear-jerking. Oh, the joy of innocence and young love.

4. The Daewong and Miho kiss in My Girlfriend is a Gumiho. Starred by Lee Seung-gi and Shin Min-ah. Of course, I wouldn’t miss in this list my favorite Korean romantic-c0medy drama. I’ll never get tired of watching it over and over and over. That first kiss never failed to make me smile and their life-or-death kiss is the most heartwarming kiss of all.

5. The Four and Tris kiss in Divergent. Starred by Theo James and Shailene Woodley. Oh, Four and his tattoo. The very moment he showed it to Tris meant opening his heart and soul to her. So sweet!

6. The Christian and Anastasia kiss in Fifty Shades of Grey. Starred by Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. This scene first came in mind when I read this week’s list. Obviously, the movie offers a lot of kisses and more but this elevator kiss, for me, is the most special.

The Great Book of Lists- Chapter 2.0: Dream Travels

Travel is about the gorgeous feeling of teetering in the unknown. — Gaby Basora.

A new chapter begins in The Great Book of Lists hosted by La duchesse d’Erat and as we turn another page, we delve into the list of our dream travels. I, myself, am not much of a traveler but I’ve always had a wandering soul and mind. The Earth is a ball of paradise and wouldn’t it be nice if we could simply travel around each one of its bliss? *Sigh*

As I was mulling over my list, I realized that  I am not much of a beach bum despite my country, the Philippines, having some of the world’s most pristine beaches (I hope this is not a bad thing). So without further ado, here’s a peak of my dream travels.

1. The Pyramids of Giza –  Al Haram, Giza Governorate, Egypt. My childhood dream is to see the Pyramids of Giza. I have always loved archaeology movies such as Indiana Jones, The Mummy, and Tomb Raider, and as I grow I’ve become more fascinated with documentaries about the pyramids and ancient Egypt.

2. Museo de Louvre – Paris, France. Most people would think of the Eiffel Tower or the Arch de Triumph at the mention of Paris but for me, it’s Louvre- home of the world’s most valued treasures, a portal to ancient time and civilization, and a place I would give anything just to go to. YAY!

The Great Book of Lists- Chapter 1.4: The Books that Transport You

This week’s The Great Book of Lists’ chapter, suggested by Jartagnan, dives into the list of books that transports you. What’s astonishing when reading a book is that at the moment you open one and sink into it, a new world unveils before your eyes—a world where endless possibility resides. A tale unfolds inside your mind taking you to a journey across the present time. A lot of books have done this to me but if I were to list them all, it may take a lifetime. So for now, here are some I’d like to share and recommend at the same time. 😀

1. Mitch Albom- As much as I would like to list a specific book, I could not bring myself to choose one among Mitch’s heartwarming books. All of them are really close to my heart and have been a refuge whenever my soul is troubled. I hope you read them all. 🙂

The Great Book of Lists- Chapter 1.3: The List of Your Desires

© pinterest

This week’s The Great Book of Lists hosted by La duchesse d’Erat goes as far as the list of your desires. Below is a glimpse of my desires for 2016. Let’s keep it burning until we realize them, everyone. \m/

1. Read the Holy Bible- Religiously. It’s a shame that laziness ruled over me for the past years. I do pray but I haven’t religiously read the bible in the past. This year, I bought a book of Daily Gospel for me to start my morning routine. I’ve been reading it since day 1 and will read it throughout the year. 🙂

2. Exercise- Regularly. It’s a work in progress. Late last year I joined our company’s dance club and badminton club to push me to do the drills. Now, I want to exercise by myself. Cheers to a healthy year! 🙂 🙂

3. Love local- Rosema, a lovely fellow Filipina blogger, inspired me with this one when she posted her 2016 plans & goals. As for me, I want to explore and try our local poetry, to eventually write poems in our local dialect (Tagalog or Bisaya) and share it in this blog soon. February, maybe? 😀

4. Get a laptop- Just last year, my 5 year old laptop which I fondly call “Iya” officially died of an unknown virus and extreme stress. If opportunity and money permit, I would like to get a new one. 😦

5. Go home- More often. I live in Cebu, oceans away from my family and my very good friends. With a limited time and number of vacation leaves, I want to spend it wisely with my beloved ones. Starting off with my birthday gift next month, a ten-days vacation in Leyte. YAY! 😀

6. Publish a book- For more than three years, I’ve been working in the operations department for a self-publishing company. Every single day, we cater to authors around the globe and help publish and market their books. This is actually not a far-fetched dream because every employee who has served for two years has the privilege of getting their book published- for free. As for me, I’m thinking of  a poetry book this year. *fingers crossed*

How about you? What are your burning desires? I would love to hear them, too. 🙂 🙂 🙂

The Great Book of Lists- Chapter 1.2: The Little Things You Love

The Great Book of Lists hosted by La duchesse d’Erat continues and this week’s chapter is all about the little things you love. It took me sometime thinking what’s gonna be on my list for there are a lot of little things that I love BIG TIME, so I decided to list down some of those little things that cheered me up yesterday. 😀

1. My pens- We never know when an idea strikes. They come in a song, a scene, a person, a second, a blank stare, a blink of the eye, a deep breath. That is why I consider my pens as the extension to my soul. In a sudden rush of idea, these help me scribble and scrawl the rawest (is there such word?!) thoughts I get. In a flash of joy and sadness, these help turn my feelings into a sketch. 😀

2. My bookmarks- I haven’t bought a bookmark, ever. This thought makes me smile because it reminds me how special my bookmarks are. All of them were either doodles/sketches I made or gifts from very good friends. Below is a chibi hulk I drew two years ago and a gold-plated bookmark from my lovely friend, Rinabel. I simply love them! 🙂

The Great Book of Lists- Chapter 1.1: Childhood Treasures

YAY! It finally started! La duchesse d’Erat has generously hosted a new blog event for the year 2016 tagged as The Great Book of Lists. Each week will feature a new list topic— lists that reflect your happiness, your hopes, your project, your inclinations, the person you were, and the person you long to become. At the end of the year, this gold mine of information, compiled together, will become our very own Great Book of Lists.

For this week’s chapter is a list of childhood treasures.

1. Old Photographs- Old albums are like storybook to me. As a child, I’ve always liked looking at old photos and listening to my Nanay or Tatay narrate the memories in those pictures. Most of them are vague to my memory, some people I don’t even know, that is why I believe old photographs are great treasure finds. For these are reminders of memory forever frozen in time.

2. The Brave Little Puppy and Other Stories– My childhood favorite book. It’s a collection of twelve short stories that are all fun, inspiring, and full of moral values. I hope kids today still find time to read great story books like this. 🙂 Continue reading “The Great Book of Lists- Chapter 1.1: Childhood Treasures”
