Nights and Lights and Silent Cries

Nights and Lights and Silent Cries

Beneath the deepening sky
On an empty street veiled by nighttime
Her eyes lay lost in the lights
And the world was muted
Not even the wind dared to howl

Drawn to the trail of light
She wandered—
And wondered
With the lights grooving before her
Why do tears fall from her eyes?

In response to dVerse’s Poetics: Groove hosted by Lillian.

A few weeks ago, a certain voldemort and I went out to the busy streets around IT Park to shoot the trail of lights from passing cars. I have always love long walks and quiet nights but during that time, it was different. My senses were all aware of the noise, the lights, and the chill of the night. Perhaps it has something to do with my agyrophobia or something else. Nonetheless, the shoot turned out all right. Looking at the pictures, though, made me think: despite the colors of the night, there will always be someone looking at them with sad eyes. Which led me to this piece.

Quest

i_see_through_you_by_reylia-d7bg2wm

Quest

Sunrays breaking through
The drips and drops
In the midst of puddles—
A skip and a hop
Confronting life’s quest
With half a smile
I see through your deep breaths
And untold sighs

Not Letting Go

Not Letting Go

Not letting go is the deep sigh on a busy afternoon
When memories poke at your mundane routine
It is throwing a boomerang thousand miles away
Waiting for it to spin right back to you
It is taking a table for two on a solitary night
Sitting face to face with resignation
It is wrapping yourself with those thin arms
Bracing yourself for the cold

How I Heal

How I Heal

how I heal is walking
in between scattered memories—
barefoot and sore
risking the odds of tripping
onto a black and white
of stolen kisses, soft touch
love letters and lazy afternoons
how I heal is struggling
towards the water edge
with my bruises itching
in the ebb and flow
darling, how I heal is hurting
until I concede that we are no more.

Ang Naghihintay

waiting-girl-1

Ang Naghihintay
A Free Verse

Sariwa pa sa’king gunita
Ang pagsilay ng iyong mga ngiti
Mga titig mo’y tanda ko pa
Habang tanaw ang mga bituin
Kaya, giliw, hiling ko lang
Hagkan ka ng mga hangin
Pag-ibig ko’y iyong damhim
Wari malaman mong
Ako’y naghihintay pa rin

~English Translation~

In my memory resides
The thought of your smile
Your stare- I still remember
As I gaze upon the stars
Thus, my dear, I only wish
The winds to kiss you now
For you to feel my love
And know that
I’m still waiting, somehow

A Scent of Peace

banksy_wall-flower-thrower1

A Scent of Peace
A Dizain

Must we walk along blood speckled street?
Hearts drumming, teeming with fears.
Must we cower in silence on our defeat?
Watch men die, cry a river of tears.
Fighting battles with bombs and spears
Have we had enough of this death and uproar?
We must put an end, to you I implore—
This pointless game of kill and destroy.
For isn’t the scent of peace sweeter than war
And tears more priceless when of joy?

Graffiti by Banksy via Tree of Life

In response to dVerse’s Tuesday Poetics: Empire of Scents

Poet’s Pub today is hosted by Grace with her scents of childhood. Our poetry challenge is to dive into the world of scents. Drizzle your verses with spices, if you are a lover of food.   Make us happy or sad, even lusty and sensual, to evoke memories. Fill our plate with your scented words, and fill our nostrils with emotions.

*My heart bleeds for the lives lost at Istabul and it scorches with rage towards the pointless reasons behind these crimes. Sigh. The image above is a graffiti by Bansky entitled, “Rage, Flower Thrower”. This artwork is reminiscent of 1960’s campus and street riots. The colorful flowers are in exchange for a grenade is a bid for peace and the end to all massacres in the name of war.

H is for Herzschmerz

My heart is broken and shattered
Terribly bruised and scarred
Absurdly hurt and blundered
Still forgetting him is so damn hard

I miss his sweet gentle kisses
As the sunshine touches my skin
He hugs me just as he pleases
And leads me to places I’ve never been

If only I could write the story of us
Collect the mem’ries and create our collage
Sketch our lives swiftly and fast
Erase the blots and clear all the smudge

I might not see you as often as I like,
Or even hold your hands every night
But deep in my heart I know that it’s true,
Forever and more, my love is for you…

Morning Glory

She was morning glory personified
Beautiful and stunning
Her radiance glows with the sun

But more than being a hardy vine
A scenic perennial flower
Morning glory symbolizes her life

She’s a hopeless romantic
Who loves in vain—
Even a forbidden one

Spent all her waking days
With a hopeful heart
To an unrequited love, she smiles.

DAY 8: And now, for our prompt (optional, as always). It’s Friday, and writing poems isn’t easy! So let’s give ourselves a break with a simple prompt today. Poets have been writing about flowers since, oh, the dawn of time. So today, I challenge you to add your own poem to this long tradition, by finding a flower, and versifying in its honor. Happy writing!

I like flowers but I don’t really have a specific favorite. I got this idea from my A to Z post a while ago and I couldn’t be happier with the choice. I never thought morning glories have interesting meaning and symbolism behind its gorgeous petals!

Did you know that it morning glorry could mean?
Unrequited love
Mortality of life
Love that is in vain
Restricted love

Fake Smiles

Written for Mind and Life Matters’ Limerick Challenge Week 5: Pain

tumblr_o04d5msd151tts3f4o1_500

And her eyes were like the clouds shedding tears

A cumulus of heartaches, pains, and fears

Tears rolled down like droplets of rain

Hiding beneath the smile she feigns

A silent scream, deep down, nobody hears

It is painful enough to have a silent scream but to have to put up a smile to hide it, is even more agonizing. Some people fake a smile because they have no one to turn to, some people fear that they’ll be misunderstood, while some would rather keep the suffering to themselves than be a burden to anyone else. Oftentimes, it’s a tug-of-war between breaking down and faking smile.

So, today, I hope we find time to let it go. Let it all go, even just for a minute. Don’t try to hold it in. Cry, scream, drop the fake smile. And then breathe, take a deep one. 🙂
