A Homo’s Inquiry

earth—
ripe of evolutionary changes

a come and go
of fire and ice
death and life

species emerging
taking places of those lost:
arthropods
dinosaurs

humans—

killing the land
killing its own

are we heading towards another extinction?
or is this some faulty evolution?

If I Could Build A House

rooms_artist03_z

If I Could Build A House

If I could build a house
I would build one not for mine

A house of warmth for those in the cold
Sprawled on the streets, no one to hold

A house of strength for those who are weakened
No mortar or bombs can ruin again

A house of light that beams in the night
For the lost and weary to cast away their fright

A house of love for the lonely and hopeless
Who threw away trust and second chances

A house of peace for the hate-filled heart
Who’s trying to keep from falling apart

If I could build a house in a snap of fingers
I would build a home for each rat that lingers.

In response to dVerse’s Tuesday Poetics: DIY Building by our guest host, Sara McNulty.

Your challenge for today is to imagine that you have been given free rein to design any type of building you wish. What would your building look like?

Banksy is back with a brand new project called “The Walled Off Hotel,” where people can literally sleep inside this work of art. Located in Bethlehem, Palestine it offers the ‘worst view in the world’ with windows overlooking the controversial barrier wall that separates the West Bank from Israel territory. The image above is one of the wall decorations in the room. Banksy is <3.

Swing Thine Broken Dreams

Swing Thine Broken Dreams

Sweet giggles filled the grimy air
Etched on a ravaged wall was a funfair
A glimpse of paradise and utter bliss
Amid the havoc and total mess
“Where do broken hearts go?”
The old song goes
Where do broken dreams go?”
Alas! Nobody knows.

My friends here in blogosphere know how much I adore the works of Banksy. The man knows how to speak the truth that most of us turn a blind eye on. The image above is one of his four stirring graffiti stencils in Gaza that was released together with a short film. Today’s quadrille reminds me of this.

Have we had enough?

20160314_c5302_photo_en_641213

Have we had enough?

eyes fixed on his war-torn home—
a triptych of death, despair and doom
he breathed the air
tasted blood on his lips;
dread clawed out of his throat
and tears seared his skin

Have we had enough?

…words echoed as he waits for dawn

Magic Tricks

giphy

When I think of magic, I think of your tricks

And the deck of cards in your pocket

How you came to me and asked for my name

Showing me an old trick, you were classic

“Pick a card, any card, any card at all”

That’s what you said and I did as told

Little did I know, I’ll be your Queen of Hearts

When I picked the Ace of Diamond

But like all tricks, yours was a ploy

A joke. A prank. A caper

For I never saw what was under your sleeves

Until you broke me to pieces

52 cards, 52 weeks—

That’s a year if you were counting

When you turned that diamond into a ring

You were Jack of all trades, I should have seen.

In response to Writing 101: Poetry

Day 1: Magic
The first prompt of the course is out, courtesy of @laduchessederat. It invites you to write a poem involving magic, whatever your take on the magical might be.

I wanted to write something light and jolly but, yeah, madness happens. I enjoyed this bitter piece though. 😉

If

If the Earth is heaven and tears
Are glee, would you still fear?
If past is present and bad
Is good and those we call ‘sad’
Cease to exist, would things be clear?
If bland is sweet and beauty
Is flawed and I am you as you are me
Would it truly be fair?
Would it end despair?
Would we finally live in peace and serenity?

Our Writing 201 Day 4 assignment brought me back to my aimless musing of ‘what ifs’. But personally, I think perfection is a matter of POV– and so does imperfection.  Now, for the late entry, here’s my take. 🙂

Prompt: Imperfect
Form: Limerick
Device: Enjambment

Where art thou?

1455921_593107217393759_1668136914_n

When the wind blows my hair on that Friday afternoon
When pairs of lovebirds surrounds me in tables for two
When sweet nothings are exchanged within my earshot
Dear boyfriend, for Pete’s sake, where art thou?
