A Homo’s Inquiry

fb_img_1535198317450

earth—
ripe of evolutionary changes

a come and go
of fire and ice
death and life

species emerging
taking places of those lost:
arthropods
dinosaurs

humans—

killing the land
killing its own

are we heading towards another extinction?
or is this some faulty evolution?

Arms

banksy

in a perfect world
arms are safe haven—
body parts
wrapped around your waist

they are not pieces of steel
sending you to hell
or to heaven
at point-blank range

in a perfect world…

arms bring bodies closer
not bodies enclosed in boxes

For some reason, today’s prompt reminded me of the rampant killings in my country and the world as a whole. 😦 The image above, Soldier Flower Gun Boy, is another guerilla graffitti from Banksy that has stirred the minds of many with its irony and juxtaposition. The image speaks for itself.

Smithereens

b&w, couple, cute, hands, holding hands, relationship

And slowly it all made sense—
Like puzzle pieces building up
One piece at a time
A laughter shared
Coffee in hand
Portions, memories
Guesses, moves
Finding possible connections
In similarities and differences
To see the bigger picture
Until the smithereens fall into place

We make the floorboards creak at night…

tumblr_o5j8waec2s1qh0z32o1_500

We make the floorboards creak at night…

We make the floorboards creak at night
You and I— tiptoeing, barefoot
Your whispers tickling my ears,
Hands slithering my back
The crickets chirp teasingly
As we dash to the grassy field
Ah, how can the world sleep
Without watching the moon and stars?

I remember when I was a child, I used to sneak outside just to watch the night. I would climb the rooftop — careful not to make a noise but the roof always manage to betray me. There, in the open, I would lie to watch the moon and stars with my mom shouting at me to get back down.  “Five more minutes” , I used to ask.

Here’s to the lovers of the moon and stars.

One Sigh At A Time

0a8bd598637966e9dbee76d752d8eed0

One Sigh At A Time

I loosen my grip
Of your memories
One sigh at a time—

Join the crowd
To unhear the sound
Of your voice
Watch the city lights
To unsee the colors
Of your eyes

One sigh at a time
One step forward
To being free

I Dream In Circles

beauty, dream, dream catcher, dreamcatcher, girl, photography, simple, sunset

I Dream In Circles

I dream in circles
Chasing the tail end
Of what once was
Of what will never be
Running after a shadow
Calling out a name
Only to wake from
The ghost of a dream
That fades like a mist
At the hint of daybreak

Submission

Submission

I submit to your dominance
Like a foolish myrmidon
Jump in circle if you need—
This soul’s entangled to yours
My virtues are figments
Lost in the willowwacks
Your love enslaves me and
With a glint of utter fear
I tremble of being free

The Baptism

The Baptism

My feet trudge the dark earth
Outlining little puddles
The furious sky flaunts its prowess
Upon us lowly creatures
My dress is drenched in the downpour
But my eyes flicker with hope
Like a child blessed with holy water
Within this rain is my baptism

Last April, I’ve had the chance to work with Reylia Slaby during the A to Z challenge. Although I was 8 letters short in completing the challenge, it was fun and exciting expressing her photos through poems. The photo above is entitled, We Summon Our Own Rain. Interesting title, eh?

Dear Balloon, Please

12685459_f520

Dear Balloon, Please

tell them
we need
no bloodshed—
another year
of lost dreams

soar the sky,
let them know
and hear our
mournful
cries

whisper
in their hearts
that we forgive them—
that we can start
anew

dear balloon,
make them feel
there is always
hope

The Balloon Girl is one of the most iconic works of Banksy. The graffiti artist has created many variations for this but the one found on the wall of a stairway in the South Bank of London in 2002 is probably the most famous. In this work, a little girl is reaching for a red heart-shaped balloon and the words “there is always hope” are placed behind her.

Is she really reaching or releasing? Banksy does not answer this question. It must come from us.
