Night of Symphonies

Night of Symphonies
Tanka

The night’s orchestra—
Whistling winds and rustling trees,
Plays a symphony
As we danced around the fire
Hand in hand and eye to eye

Tears at Dawn

Tears at Dawn
An Aubade

Mahal, ikaw ay nasaan?
Sa gitna ng gabi ako ay iniwan
Sa malupit na dilim, nagsusumamo
Na sana maibalik ang ‘ikaw at ako’
Ngunit mga luha ay hindi mo nilingon
Pag-ibig mo ba’y nalimot ng kahapon?
Dinggin ang pusong nagmamakaawa
Sana ay balikan sa dapit-umaga

~English Translation~

Where are you, my love?
In the middle of the night you left
In the cruel darkness I pleaded
To bring back ‘you and I’
Yet you failed to see my tears
Was love forgotten in yesteryear?
Hear this begging heart of mine
Please, come back to me at dawn

Ang Naghihintay

Ang Naghihintay
A Free Verse

Sariwa pa sa’king gunita
Ang pagsilay ng iyong mga ngiti
Mga titig mo’y tanda ko pa
Habang tanaw ang mga bituin
Kaya, giliw, hiling ko lang
Hagkan ka ng mga hangin
Pag-ibig ko’y iyong damhim
Wari malaman mong
Ako’y naghihintay pa rin

~English Translation~

In my memory resides
The thought of your smile
Your stare- I still remember
As I gaze upon the stars
Thus, my dear, I only wish
The winds to kiss you now
For you to feel my love
And know that
I’m still waiting, somehow

Butterflies

Butterflies
A Free Verse

Fluttering wings, vibrant hues
Dancing under the sunny sky
When I look into those eyes
In my stomach they found their shrine
Scarlet cheeks— breathless
I’m swept away in a smile
Blushing ‘neath the warmth of your gaze
Restless, my heart’s on a race.

Word-High July: 30 Beautiful Filipino Words

Banner 1

Much like the colors of the skies, every language is beautiful in its own way—the way they sound and how each word fits perfectly in a poem, a story, or a musical piece. And sometimes we find ourselves wishing how delightful it would be if we could learn those languages by heart and use them in our craft.

That is why Maria of Doodles and Scribbles and Rosema of A Reading Writer haveinvited you to join their July blog event, Word-High July. They have teamed up to give you a whole month worth of prompts and since we are both #ProudlyPinay, these 30 beautiful Filipino words below will serve as the prompt for each day of the month.

Disclaimer: These words and these photos are from a lovely article by BuzzFeed titled “36 Of The Most Beautiful Words In The Philippine Language”. All credits goes to them.
