Buried Wealth

garden-of-death

In the middle of the night, like a thief,
fear came with a bending sickle

and so here lie
the untold stories,
unwritten poems,
unsung songs,
unfulfilled dreams , and
unrealized greatness

an immeasurable wealth buried six feet beneath.

In response to Shapeshifting 13 #75 KICKOFF: GHOUL FESTIVAL! and Poets United Midweek Motif: Wealth

Visual Prompt: “Garden of Death” by Hugo Simberg; 1896; Watercolor and gouache

Audio Prompt: “Piano Sonata No 2 in B Flat Minor, Movement 3 (The Funeral March)” by Frederic Chopin

Archangel’s Last Fight

His body slowly crumbled as if he was devastation itself. Peering through the blur, he saw the snares of evil vanished into the pits of hell.

In response to Shapeshifting 13 #74 KICKOFF: GHOUL FESTIVAL!

During Ghoul Festival, you will be provided a picture prompt and an audio prompt. The prompts should create an atmosphere for you that (we hope) will elicit some amazingly creative writing that is incredibly diverse. Let the image and the audio guide you through your imagination.

Visual Prompt: “Nike” by Cordray Parker (Located in the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, Birmingham, Alabama)

Audio Prompt: Beethoven – Moonlight Sonata

P.S. The 26-word limit is a tricky task and does not equate with Beethoven’s deep, dark and ferocious sonata. Phew! That was quite a cavernous chasm I was in!

Failed Experiment

Failed Experiment

Trial and error
Evaluate, assess
Which version of me
This society accepts
To conformity I succumbed
Conceded, gave in
Only to find it’s a
Failed experiment

Worldly Plethora

Worldly Plethora
An Envelope Quintet

Scintillating beams to me enthrall
Wealth before my eyes
A cornucopia beyond count
Banquet of treasure past the skies
Yet, why an empty hall?
~
Tears glimmered beneath the glow
This worldly plethora— a mere disguise
For true bliss sums no amount
And riches are but lies
This, my friends, you must know.

Coruscant Soul
A Free Verse

Forces of the world
Hammered her soul—
Failures, setbacks, and life’s puzzles
Failures burnt in smoldering heat
Shackled by setbacks, constant defeat
Lost in the void of life’s puzzles
Yet she surfaced like a crystal
Shining after searing fire—
Glaring and bright
A coruscant soul
Forged after chains of
Breakdowns and cries.

Tough Love

“Chasing Lava” by Nick Selway and CJ Kale

Tough Love
A Free Verse

Let your love burn like lava
Scorching in fiery orange
Do not fear that I will tremble
Or worse, that I will hide
For I’ll be the grayish-blue ocean
Refusing to let go of the shore
Devour me along with the sands
Let the world melt away
Into a clutter of noise

Nature’s Cry
A Free Verse

Nature cries
Of crimson red tears
She grieves for abuse
She weeps for neglect
Of misery,
She gravely fears
The end is near
For this game of greed
A tug-of-war between her and us—
Whoever turns first into dust
