Nights and Lights and Silent Cries

Nights and Lights and Silent Cries

Beneath the deepening sky
On an empty street veiled by nighttime
Her eyes lay lost in the lights
And the world was muted
Not even the wind dared to howl

Drawn to the trail of light
She wandered—
And wondered
With the lights grooving before her
Why do tears fall from her eyes?

In response to dVerse’s Poetics: Groove hosted by Lillian.

A few weeks ago, a certain voldemort and I went out to the busy streets around IT Park to shoot the trail of lights from passing cars. I have always love long walks and quiet nights but during that time, it was different. My senses were all aware of the noise, the lights, and the chill of the night. Perhaps it has something to do with my agyrophobia or something else. Nonetheless, the shoot turned out all right. Looking at the pictures, though, made me think: despite the colors of the night, there will always be someone looking at them with sad eyes. Which led me to this piece.

Head over here to join the fun!

  2. The eyes laying lost in the lights is my favourite line here. It says so much about the sadness and loneliness. Now I have to look up what Agyrophobia means

  6. Such a strong sad message conveyed so well in brevity and heart. I have health issues these days, and it becomes harder to spend more than an hour on photo adventures, and harder to drive there. Nice that I have a decade and 50,000 images as a backlog.

    • Aw, Glenn. I will be looking forward to those decade of images from you. Those sure are gem. 😀 And I hope you are feeling a little better today despite the winter. Thanks a lot for the lovely words.

  7. I don’t know why tears are falling but I like this phrase: “veiled by nighttime”

  8. I do love the image, but I can understand how all that movement and citylights make you see the darkness better.

  9. This is a wondrous post to the prompt. The photo is very good. And I can feel the mood of the writer changing as she is watching the lights — a quiet evening walk, the darkness but also the groove of car lights, city lights before you….there’s a “city silence” to this scene….and one can become mesmorized by that groove/trail of moving lights…like a ribbon before you and then the emotion wells up — in the midst of all that light and movement and yet the writer is standing still alone, watching the sea of humanity moving in those lights and the tears begin to fall. This is a beautiful post. I’m so glad you posted to the prompt.
Apologies for the late reply….although I’m hosting, I had to go out of town for a bit today so am just getting back in the groove and reading 🙂

    • Aw, thanks a lot Lillian. You dissected the thoughts and emotions I was trying to convey really well. ❤ Happy to have joined your prompt too. I hope this didn't stir the groove of the night at the bar.

And, have fun with your out of towns. We'd love to hear more about them. 😉
