I Surrounded Myself With Emptiness
I surround myself with emptiness:
an empty jar that was once
filled with the sweetest jam
an hourglass whose sands
of time were blown by the wind
a light bulb— unable to shine
with its filaments gone
a wine glass that I sleep with
till my waking days
Call this madness or a hint of desperation
Curse this bed of despair from which I lie
But I surround myself with emptiness
So I can simply forget about mine

this was profound to say the least, yet so much more Maria, to surround yourself with loneliness just to forget your own. Gives such weight to solitude as a balm.

Thank you, Gina. I think, at times, we do this. It cold be another kind of healing. To look for emptiness or seek silence..

Thank you, D. I’m still trying to find my balance though. I’ve been spilling my poems with sadness these days. 😅 Any advice?

I think sometimes the sadness needs to spill out Maria. I try to mix writing poetry with different moods. If I want to change my mindset I will spend some time reading humorous poetry, Edward Lear, Hilaire Belloc, Spike Milligan. When the time is right it will change. Just go with the flow, it is producing some awesome poetry.
