Etchings
a beast awakes in her sleep
recounting all of her defeat
etched on her skin are downfalls
broken hearts and failures
but day breaks with renewed faith
trampling over the nasty beast
the odious markings on her skin
she wears with pride again

Another excellent and powerful piece Maria. I love the line “but day breaks with renewed faith”. It is that renewed faith that moves us forward.

I completely agree. It’s always our case (and choice), right? Waking up with a renewed faith to face another day…
Hope you’re having a lovely day on your end. 😊

So powerful! It is they renewed faith that moves us forward, that persistent belief that we have the power and will to do so! Lovely.

I agree with all your commenters. A powerful striking poem.
Especially these lines:
but day breaks with renewed faith
trampling over the nasty beast
I picture those lines as a surrealism fee. Excellent job my friend. 🙂

Lovely take Maria. I was wondering how to make this picture hopeful. You did just that! The beast in her sleep, horrifies and hurts her, maybe even scars her. But she survives the nightmares and the night and having made it through, her “odious” scars she wears with pride. As she should, nightmares and bad memories are terrible things. Hope you are doing well my friend. Are you still in university or do you work now. Just curious (or I forgot :().

You had the perfect understanding of what I was trying to portray, Mandi. And thank you! I am doing well (although work is trying its best to cause chaos!). How are you? I hope you’re doing well. I can see you are very busy with your writing nowadays. 🙂

Hi Maria. I gave in and joined OCtPoWriMo, so that always keeps me busy. Also, trying to do some self study on both creative and nonfiction writing. Read some books on the subjects I mean. Also added some of MindLoveMisery Prompts and I very much like them 🙂
Glad you liked the poem. Sorry work is so busy for you.
