In the infinitesimal glow of her eyes
she waited—
uncomplaining and hopeful
that one day someone would look behind
her smile,
see the beauty in imperfection
in a jar of scars and wounds
that even when she’s unraveling
one would still choose to
stay

In response to dVerse’s Quadrille – 14: Jar
Tending the bar today is Bjorn with his poems, Why Leave the TV On? and Pickled Summer. The challenge is to write a poem in exactly 44 words (excluding title) where at least one of the words has to be “jar”.
Head over here to join the fun:

I do love the sense in this… that thick skin we develop to a prison…

Most often we end up prisoners of our fears, I guess. Especially the fear of not being accepted for who you truly are.
Thank you, Bjorn~

I love the vulnerability of this, and the fragility that the glass jar adds. Wonderful.

Yes, we do wish people would really see us…or do we? I think there are many times I do not wish to be really seen. Those scars….

I echo your thoughts, Toni. Many times I hide my scars in the deepest corners of my being but I know, deep inside, we all want someone to brave the abyss that we are in. 🙂

Ah, yes. I think we all yearn for someone to see what is behind the facade and to love every part of us, even (or especially) the dark parts.

Especially the dark parts, yes. ❤ Wouldn't it be wonderful to have someone see the beauty within you when you can't see it for yourself?

Amazing, Maria. Isn’t that what we all want, for someone to see us as we truly are, past all the masks? Such deep words.

So much said in this compact form. We need to be appreciated and loved for all of our scars and imperfections. They are part of our true beauty. Enjoyed your poem. 🙂
