“Ah, music,” he said, wiping his eyes. “A magic beyond all we do here!”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Yes, music. One of the most magical things in this world- along with poems, books, and love- and I couldn’t be happier when La duchesse d’Erat introduced this week’s chapter in The Great Book of List. If my life carries a playlist with it, it’ll be filled with hundreds of songs transcending through time. But since we can’t have that, here are some songs from the soundtrack of my life that I’d like to share. I hope you enjoy! 😀
1. A song that reminds me to trust in God- I’ve mentioned this in the previous chapter since every word in the lyrics resonates and matters to me. When everything goes wrong and nothing seems right, I turn to this one. I turn to God.
Just Be Held by Casting Crowns
2. A song that reminds me to believe in myself- This one’s very close to my heart and have helped me overcome my fears and self-doubt. I stumbled upon this song during college when I needed it the most. Since then, I’ve been singing the lyrics by heart. ❤
This Girl by Nikki Flores
3. A song that reminds me I have very good friends- It may be a romantic love song but I have long considered this one as a friendship theme song ever since I’ve met my most treasured friends. We sang this with a promise that even if we’re apart, we’ll always be together by heart. 😀
Wherever You Will Go by The Calling
4. A song that reminds me of home- Choosing one that reminds me of home is quite hard for we shared a lot. In a family of five, my little sister, Tatay, and I were probably more musically inclined than my little brother and Nanay. Back then, when we have all the time in the world, we used to sing in a karaoke at home- singing our hearts out to Air Supply, Kenny Rogers, Lionel Richie, Eric Clapton, and more. This one is my Tatay’s favorite song. ❤
Through the Years by Kenny Rogers
5. A song that reminds me to loosen up- My to-go song when everything seem to happen all at once and I have no time to pause, think, and breathe. A few minutes of laziness really works. 😀
The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars
6. A song that reminds me I am beautiful- Inside and out, no matter what we are all created beautiful. Remember that. 😘
Try by Colbie Caillat
7. A song that always makes me smile- I really have to include this one, my ringtone for more than 5 years now. Hearing this song always makes me smile because 1) it’s a song from my favorite KDrama, and 2) it meant someone who remembers me is trying to call me. YAY!
Two as One by Lyn
8. A song that reminds me the beauty of love- I intend to skip love songs because there’s just too many on my favorites list and it hurts I can’t list them all. The hopeless romantic in me, however, wants me to share even one. So here’s a song that would absolutely play on my wedding day (if the universe allow me to have one). ❤❤❤
Endless Love by Lionel Richie
And since we’re at it, I’d like to share the current song of my life. The one I’ve been playing on loop ever since my imaginary boyfriend, James Reid, announced that he’s officially in a relationship. Ha! Okay, I’m gonna shut up now and mourn. 😀 😀 😀
Secret Love Song by Little Mix
How about you? What are the soundtrack of your life? I would love to hear them, too. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Gosh, what a great list!… The Calling!!!!! ♥♥ As for my soundtrack, at the top of my head R.E.M’s ‘Everybody Hurts’ comes to mind, and ‘What a Feeling’ – Irene Cara! 🙂 And there’s this other song in my national language, but can’t find it with English subtitles 😦 It’s and oldie (1960s) called the ‘Magic of Love’ and has this great beat which just puts you in a cheery mood! 🙂 … Thanks for the list, got to hear some which were new to me as well! 🙂

YAY! The Calling is ❤ Oh my!! It's my first time listening to 'Everybody Hurts' and it's so beautiful. WOW. Hmm…I'd love to listen to Magic of Love too, may I know who the singer is? Glad you enjoyed this list, S! And thank you, too, for sharing your songs. 😀

Yes, Everybody Hurts does have some really apt wordings! Sure! He’s a singer from here, and this is his song. His newer songs have English subtitles, but unfortunately, the older ones don’t! But enjoy the beat and the really old school video! 🙂

Yes, inspiring lyrics! 😀 Oh, the beat really is catchy and although I don’t understand the song I’m thinking it has something to do how love brings color to a dull day? Haha. I was just basing it on the MV though. It somewhat reminds me of Zoobi Doobi from 3 idiots movie, too. 😀 Thanks for sharing, S!

You got the gist of the song!😊 It’s inspired by Michael Jackson’s video Billie Jean! Some oldies live forever!😊

Not trying to play favoritism or anything, but your soundtrack happens to one of my faves from all the bloggers I’ve seen so far. Such a great collection of music that I used to know and music I never heard before (thanks for introducing some good music, Maria!)

It’s so fun to listen to these playlists this week! It just makes me laugh that three of us (so far) have included Kenny Rogers songs. And here I thought I was odd! Thanks for sharing this great list!

Ha! Why oh why? Kenny Rogers is definitely not an odd choice. Or maybe it’s the three of us who are odd? 😀 😀 So glad you enjoyed it Amy… 🙂

I loved thinking most about songs from when I was really young. So many of my early memories are connected to music–and Kenny Rogers just had to be there!

I love the idea that our parents pass along their musical interests. That was definitely the case in my family, too–even though I fought against those songs for so long thinking they were “old fashioned.” Now they’re some of my favorites!
