Zed’s face lights up whenever he starts talking about Mia.  Sometimes love finds you in unexpected ways, and little did he know that he would find it in the hands of an auburn-haired, fair-skinned, smart, kind and exceedingly gorgeous woman he’d met in the outskirts of Raleigh.

You alright there, Nick? she thought to herself.

“Hey, Nicky? You weren’t listening!” Zed’s voice meddled as his fingers snapped in front of her face.

Her thoughts dwindled and their eyes met. Damn those hazel eyes. “Of course I was listening. You’re proposing, finally, you bummer! Should I ready my gown?”

“Funny, not yet. But we’d better go outside. The boat will be here anytime soon with Mia,” he said beaming with delight, making a thousand butterflies wing in the depths of her stomach. “But hey… it’s a secret, okay? I want it to be a surprise.”

“Sure thing. It’s a secret.” she said. A stinging clandestine. And all butterflies slowed into a halt knowing that she can never have the man of her dreams.
