She lived in a mango tree. High up in the leafy branches where years of dreams and promises reside; a pledge of an everlasting love signed and sealed by carvings on a bark.
Everything was perfect– or so she thought. For in an instant, her beautiful world crumbled to an end; in a heartbeat, he was gone.
Now the sound of the bluebirds’ hymn, the warmth of the morning sun, and the kiss of the midnight air, all seemed worthless without him. In her every waking day, she lived to die with the ghostly memory of their kisses and the gentle sound of his voice, all over again.
And so, without a second thought, Veronika made a choice.
“Wait for me, my love.” she uttered as her lifeline slowed into a halt.
…
They live here still. High up in the leafy branches where two lovers shared undeterred tenderness and joy; souls forever intertwined.

Mondays Finish the Story is a unique flash fiction challenge hosted by Barbara Beacham where they provide you with a new photo each week and the first sentence of a story. The challenge is to finish the story using 100-150 words, not including the sentence provided. This challenge runs from Monday to Sunday! Get creative and have fun finishing the story!
This week’s story begins with: “She lived in a mango tree.”
Here’s my take for this week’s Mondays Finish the Story prompt. PS. I’m honestly not quite sure what tale to tell but it seemed like I bumped into an old Romeo and Juliet story today.
Enjoy more awesome stories here. 🙂

So very sad that his time with her was so short but wonderful that their souls are together forever! Wonderful story.

Sadness could bring out something beautiful at times– in a song, a poem, or a story. Thank you. 🙂

Oh sad story for the reader but perhaps what they wanted was to be together.

Some endings opens a brand new start. I’d like to think that is what they’ve got. Thanks for dropping by Sally. 🙂
